Technical Outreach Expert

Dr. Giuseppe LA ROCCA has a master degree in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Catania (Italy).

From 2004 to 2015, he worked as technologist at the Italian National Institute for High Energy Physics (INFN), division of Catania. Both at National and European level, he has been involved in several projects co-funded by the European Commission in the context of the FP6, FP7 and H2020.
Since 2004 his main activity has been to work on ICT scientific developments for supporting both emerging and already established VRCs. During these years he matured strong skills and competences on Grids and Clouds technologies, developing high-level services for supporting the day-by-day work of modern researchers, handled responsibility and built positive relationships with work colleagues at all levels.

Since 2004 he has contributed to the operation of the GILDA[1] training e-Infrastructure which has been successfully used for the induction of new users in more than 500 events held in more than 60 countries worldwide.

Since 2009 he is one of the software developers of the Catania Science Gateway Framework (CSGF)[2], the framework which changes the way e-Infrastructures are accessed and used by a wider range of users, and he has been involved in the design and the implementation of Science Gateways for various Virtual Research Communities.

Since 2010 he is the software architect and main developer of the eTokenServer[3], a standard-based solution developed by INFN for central management of robot certificates and provisioning of proxies to get seamless and secure access to computing e-Infrastructures, based on local, Grid and Cloud middleware supporting the X.509 standard for authorization.

In collaboration with JSAGA team at CC-IN2P3 in Lyon in 2013 he has developed a new JSAGA adaptor for OCCI -complaint cloud stack[4]. This new JSAGA adaptor has been successfully adopted, in the context of the CHAIN-REDS project, to demonstrate the interoperability between different e-Infrastructures operated in different continents.

Since Dec. 2015 he joined EGI.eu as Technical Outreach Expert.

He is author of more than 40 scientific papers reviewed by some International Conferences.
